History

TheMallard Duckis the ancester of the majority of domestic ducks. Found throughout Europe, large areas of Asia and northmost North America. During the winter months the Mallard Duck can travel as far south as Southern Mexico, India and North Africa. More recently they have been seen in Southern Canada during the warmer months.

Characteristics

The Mallard Duck feeds on plants and small animals found in ponds, lakes, rivers and marshes. The male is recognized by a green head with a white ring around their neck. The body is black, gray and white.. The female has a more mottled, dull yellow/brown body.
