It is not extensively bred in America, but in Europe is considered one of the finest turkeys for the table, and is bred with success in Norfolk and Normandy in France. The French Blacks are pure, rich black, whilst Norfolk Blacks in England are dull black, with brown and eoccasionally white tips showing (this has happened with selective breeding after the 1920's as prior to this the breeds were identical).
