Very varied according to the books read as to whether the origins are French or American. There is no reliable data on the origin of the American Dominiques. It is probably a selection from one of many grey fowls kept in New England The type of the breed indicates varied bloodlines, possibly of the Asiatic and Hamburg breeds.
